Launch draft — review and adopt with the institution before public release.

By creating or using a LostLink account, you agree to follow these rules and any additional campus policies that apply to the service.

Use the service responsibly

• Only submit truthful Lost/Found information that you are authorized to share.
• Do not impersonate students or college staff, submit fraudulent ownership claims, threaten or harass users, or misuse the response feature.
• Do not publish passwords, phone numbers, home addresses, student IDs, financial/medical information, or sensitive details that could expose an owner or help a false claimant.
• Do not upload illegal, abusive, copyrighted without authorization, or unrelated content. Only upload photos you are allowed to share.
• Do not automate spam, attempt to bypass access controls, inspect another user's private responses, or try to gain Admin access without institutional authorization.
• Respect the report rate limits and promptly mark an item returned when appropriate.

Admin access

Admin access is restricted to staff independently verified by the institution. A signup choice, email confirmation, typed college name or staff ID does not independently prove employment. Admins must use their access only for legitimate campus administration and may have their role removed if their authorization changes.

Item ownership and handover

LostLink helps people coordinate; it does not authenticate the physical ownership of every item. Ask claimants to verify details that are not public in the listing. Arrange handovers at an official campus office or another safe public location. Do not share access credentials or meet alone in an unsafe location. Report valuable, dangerous, regulated or suspicious items to the relevant campus office instead of arranging an informal return.

Moderation

Authorized Admins may mark reports returned, reopen reports, or remove posts that violate campus rules. Moderation actions are recorded for accountability. The institution should provide a monitored channel for appeals or urgent safety concerns before launch.

Availability and limitations

The service is provided to assist campus coordination. LostLink does not guarantee that an item will be found, that every report is accurate, or that every user is trustworthy. The site may be unavailable for maintenance, security or service-provider issues. Do not rely on LostLink as an emergency service.
